We’ve all been there I know I have, those feelings of inadequacy that creep in when the weight starts to pile on. I remember slouching in front of the mirror and feeling absolutely powerless everytime I entered the kitchen, I knew I wasn’t hungry, but I just had to eat. When I was bored, when I needed a distraction, when I felt emotional, if someone made me angry. Food became my friend and became my frenemy.

If anybody could understand, the fridge could. If anything could distract from the pain, something meaty, piled with calories and carbohydrates, a desert clogged with sugar and exercise? Exercise who? In a few months my body had transformed.
My pronounced cheekbones were gone, I felt awkward and uncomfortable in my skin, and when the opposite sex walked by, I dreaded I had not made myself invisible enough. As I flick through the glossy images of the polished women in magazines, went through channel to channel, one thing was certain, these hot trendy, delicious, glam and chic style divas looked nothing like me. These Vogue vixens had bodies to die for, the type that would make a man beg, and stop traffic. I wanted to look like that , I wanted to feel the way I used to feel. Comfortable, athletic, energetic, navigating shops and slipping into something cute with ease.
I wanted heads to roll as I glided into a room once again, I wanted to feel confident. As a woman you are consistently competing and being compared, even when your not aware of it, sometimes loving yourself can be very challenging with the media shoving down images of who you should be and what you should look like.
The concept of the modern successful woman, she’s glamorous, gorgeous, desirable, and of course, she’s petite and slim. Yet beauty goes so much deeper than this, it is evolving now and images of beauty have become more versatile, race, style, culture, identity, yet health remains at the top.
